The four famous local dishes in Hainan: Dongshan goat, Hele mud crab, Gangbei Prawn and Houan Mugil cephalus. The top of the four, Dongshan goat grows in Wanning. It is said its delicacy thanks to the precious herbs in Dongshan Ridge. Its meat is tasty with tender skin; it is good to healthy and remove extra damp and heat; it is strong but not greas; it is fragrant tasty but not smelly; its soup looks milky with high nutrition.

Dongshan Goat has been very famous since Song Dynasty and it was ranked as tribute article in ancient time. Hele Mud Crab grows in the sea of the Wanning town; it has rich cream and fresh meat, shining as gold like the duck egg yolk with the fragrance floating around. The most common cooking method for the crab is simple steam, with ginger and vinegar as sauce. Gangbei Prawn grows in the exchange of freshwater and seawater in Wanning. It is red meat, shiny shell, and yellowish neck other than the pale green of other species of prawns. With crispy skin and tender meat, it tastes delicious but not smells fishy; even some tourists who dislike the fishy smell of sea food would praise Gangbei Prawn as it tastes special. Houan Mugil Cephalus grows in some small sea of Houan. Its general cooking method is making soup. Only soup maybe with two pieces of gingers, the simplest way, but the flavor would impress you. It is reported that Houan Mugil Cephalus is a top grad fish species with high nutrition, especially for children, old or pregnant women.
